Expert: Brian Skellie Date: 6/26/2008 Subject: re-piercing my baby's earlobe
Question I had my 5 month old baby's ears pierced and one of the piercings was placed very poorly. We removed the earring within an hour and want to re-pierce it. How long do we need to wait to make sure that it is entirely healed. It has been 5 days and you can't even see where the hole was.
Thank you!
Answer It will probably still be tender and healing for 3-4 weeks. I'd suggest that you give it that and a little more to correct the placement. Consider a change to titanium jewelry for healing to avoid long term sensitization. http://piercing.org/faq/jewelry.html explains why and http://piercing.org/shop has examples of safe pieces.
