Expert: Brian Skellie Date: 7/7/2008 Subject: my labret piercing is bleeding
Question I got my labret pierced four days ago, and now randomly when i was eating an Otter Pop it began bleeding down my chin and in my mouth. It has happened three other times today. How can i make it stop, and should i be worried?
Answer Dear Melanie,
I apologize for the delay in my response as I've been very busy with work in the last days. If you still have the piercing, and did not get worried and remove it, the problem was likely that a small blood vessel was damaged by the piercing, and broke after a few days. Direct pressure with sterile gauze for about ten minutes will normally stop bleeding as first aid. You should continue to ice the area until it returns to normal. See a doctor if it does not stop bleeding after application of ice and pressure.
