You are here: Experts > Style > Tattoo/Body Piercing > Ear & Body Piercing > Second hole not healed after a year
Expert: Brian Skellie - 10/29/2009
Question It's been more than a year since I got my second holes pierced and while one of them is fine, the other has yet to heal. It doesn't always hurt but it's (only slightly) bigger and blood and a clear fluid come out when I take out the earring. Is there any recommended type of cleaner? How should I clean it? I really want it to be healed already!
Answer The jewelry and care are likely to be the main problems. A change of jewelry to a safer piece, as described at http://jewelry.piercing.org/ should help. That piece may be damaged or otherwise irritating your skin.
http://care.piercing.org/ can help with gentle and mild aftercare to help eliminate allergic reactions. If you sleep on the piercing, touch it other than while cleaning it, especially with a phone, the area could be constantly irritated or infected.
See a doctor or dermatologist if the problem gets worse or does not get better.
