Expert: Brian Skellie - 11/2/2009
Question I am considering a forward helix piercing, but I have one concern with my lifestyle and the healing of it. I jog 3 or 4 times a week and always sweat in the area above the ear. While I shower immediately after, the sweat is on me for a good 30-40 minutes while I run. I'd be willing to not jog for a week or two after it's pierced, but would this be long enough? Is it likely this would be a bad area for me to get a piercing?
Answer Although you will need to be particular about the aftercare http://care.piercing.org/ you should still be able to heal this. Sweat tends to cause less irritation than sleeping on the piercing, for example. Consider an absorbent headband to minimize the hassle, and make sure the area is rinsed well.
