Ear & Body Piercing/Spiderbites

Question
Hi, so I'm going to pierce the left side of my bottom lip. I ordered a sterile kit and have done substantial research on doing so. The kit includes a 14 gauge hollow needle and captive ball ring. After I ordered it, I chose to do spider bites. I was wondering if I could pierce both holes with the same sized needle (14g) but wear a 16g ring in one hole. Would that look odd and will the hole with the 16g ring heal properly? Thanks in advance, Russell

Answer
Dear Russell,
For safety and best results, I would be pleased to refer you to a qualified piercer in your area who can take care of making this a safe and accurate experience for you, and can better ensure jewelry fit and quality. I have never seen safe jewelry available in a kit, and kits most often have no documentation or proof that they were sterilized correctly. Usually the material is not suitable for healing, and the surface finish is not adequately polished, so thick scarring is a high risk. http://jewelry.piercing.org/ explains more in detail.

Piercing with a larger needle and inserting smaller jewelry will make a loose piercing that will bleed considerably more than a normal piercing with the same size jewelry, and can lead to additional scarring. This is not a common practice among qualified professional piercers.
