Ear & Body Piercing/Sun and piercings

Question
Hello, I just had a quick question.

I have a navel piercing, a nostril piercing, and two helix piercings, and I have high-quality jewelry in them and have always done the correct aftercare for them (they are all over 1 year old). But I find that when I'm at home in New York, they are constantly slightly irritated and they seem to be not fully healed. But during the summertime or when I'm on vacation (like right now I'm in Cancun), the sun seems to make them heal perfectly and they're great little piercings.

I was just wondering why this is - is there something about the sun that makes my piercings healthy? And if so, how can I make them be healthy when I'm not in constant sun?

Answer
Hello Matilda,
When you are on vacation, your overall relaxation and well-being should be increased. Reducing your daily stress can have a stronger effect on piercings than regular exposure to the sun. Exercise and meditation can help with that.

Another possibility is that the difference in your tap water or bathing products in NY could be irritating. Consider protecting your piercings from the flow, and using sterile saline wound wash for rinsing, and sterile gauze for drying. There are filters available for your shower head to help reduce irritation as well.
