Ear & Body Piercing/Septum

I got my septum pierced about two months ago. When I got it pierced it did not hurt at all, but the next few days, I was in a horrible amount of pain. I expected swelling, but therewas also a constant throbbing around my whole nose. I couldnt touch it at all. There was so much blood and plasma coming from the piercing that I was unable to move the ring around when I tried to clean it. I cleaned the piercing with warm salt water and H2Ocean. The pain was so bad that I ended up taking the piercing out five days later. I had it pierced with a 16gauge I believe. I really want it again, but the pain was really bad last time. Is it possible to get it in a smaller size? I think if I get it repierced the same thing will just happen again. Was I just being a baby and didn't toughen it out long enouh?

From what you describe, this does not seem like a normal septum piercing experience.

Placement could have been inappropriate, making this uncomfortable as you explained.

Additionally, excessive pain could be a sign of infection, along with discolored discharge, heat, swelling or redness.

If you do have the piercing done again, I strongly advise that you have another consultation in person with a qualified colleague of mine to help determine what the issue may have been.

Where are you located in California? I should be able to refer you to someone nearby.
