Question
white skin around ball
white skin around ball
I have had my snake eyes piercing for 3weeks now. Around the right ball my tounge is turning white. There is no discharge and it won't go away. The only time there is irritation is when I first wake up but goes away within minutes. Will the white area ever go away? I don't believe I need a shorter bar it kind of looks like the ball is in my tongue there is no extra bar.I did remove the piercing and the white part feels numb what can I do?

Question:   QUESTION: Hello. I got my snake eyes 2 days ago and it is still hurting and I talk funny but I know that's normal for right now. What I'm worried about is that there is white surrounding my piercing. Is this an infection? I attached a photo.

ANSWER: I normally would suggest that you treat a piercing carefully with gentle aftercare as described here, but in this case I would remove it right away. As far as oral piercings go, this is one that can do quite a bit of damage, no matter how it is done or how well you treat it. This is not a piercing that a qualified, ethical professional would perform.

If you use sterile gauze pads to grip each end, the process can be aseptic. See your healthcare provider if you experience any further signs of infection, typically: heat, redness, pain, swelling and discolored discharge.
