Ear & Body Piercing/the state of my old piercings

Question
First question: Will my nipple piercings ever stop crusting? The piercings are over 3 years old, 14g straight barbells. They don't pus much or consistently but there's almost always a bit of crust around the balls.  Would changing from surgical steel to titanium help?
Second question: My ears are stretched to 0g, have been for 9 years.  It seems like one of them has a good amount of scar tissue because I cannot use flared plugs, only ones with a screw off back. I also cannot wear metal for more than a few days ever since I went from 2g to 0g.  Is there any way to fix this?
Considering I also have a navel and a septum piercing with no problems, these should not be metal allergy issues or "my body doesn't like piercings" issues.

Answer
Hello Ambrosia,

The placement and size of your jewelry and its proportion to your anatomy can be factors in whether nipple piercings finish healing for women. Also, important to note is pressure from your bra or from sleeping on them, if you are a stomach sleeper.

The material in question may be improved upon, and titanium alloy jewelry that meets http://jewelry.safepiercing.org/ standards should be a good choice. Also the surface finish and mechanical closure can influence how well a piercing heals.

Secondly, the scar tissue in your stretched ear piercing may diminish over time, provided that you wear /only/ safe materials such as glass or titanium and give them time to stabilize. You'll also want to consider downsizing and frequent massage of the area with a product such as jojoba oil or cocoa butter. Irritated piercings are more susceptible to contact dermatitis.
