Question
Piercing
Piercing
So I got my belly button piercing a week and a half ago. Yesterday I was lying on my stomach for about an hour, and after I realized my navel piercing looked as if it at stretched a little. It is also red in that area. However, it does not hurt at all.
What should I do?
Many thanks.

Answer
Hello Ana,
A piercing will dry and the area around the opening may redden a bit during healing. Any amount of pressure put on it will be irritating, though. Do everything you can to abstain from tight waistbands and direct pressure such as lying on top of it.

http://piercingexp.com/faq/aftercare.html and http://care.safepiercing.org/ should have helpful tips to soothe the area.

If this gets worse, or does not get better right away, then first see your piercer for a better fit, and consider seeing your healthcare provider if you note any heat, pain, swelling, and or discharge along with the redness, as these can be signs of infection.
