Expert: Eric P. Wilkinson, MD Date: 9/22/2007 Subject: tingling tongue
Question last day i had a very cool an minty sensation on the tip of my tongue and the center of the lips which lasted for a few minutes....really confused what was that...it was almost a tingling sensation....heard somewhere that it can be a symptom of multiple sclerosis! is that true doctor...or is it because my calcium levels were low?
Answer This could just have been a nerve paresthesia, or altered sensation of the nerve to that part of the tongue. It can come from a variety of causes. You should probably have a thorough neurological examination, but if that is normal you may not need to do anything else. If you get any other symptoms then imaging or other tests may be needed.
