Subject: should we go to first grade?

Question
I have a daughter who will be 6 at the end of April.  She will be completing kindergarten in a few weeks and has done well, but her teacher says she has trouble focusing, more so than the other students on worksheets and test.  sometimes she is o.k.  i really feel that it wouldn't be right to hold her back because of focusing issues since she has done really well- straight A'S- and the teacher hasn't mentioned it.  Could I help with something at home.

Answer
Hi Leslie,

I would get more information. I would ask specifically about her development in story-telling and in reading comprehension. I would want to know where the teacher has determined her to be in terms of her math skills as well. If she is having a problem with "focusing," where is the teacher seeing this? Is it just on worksheets? Is there anything else going on at that time to possibly cause her to lose focus? Is she challenged..or perhaps bored?

Check with the teacher to get far more details....too vague for me to make a suggestion other than to explore more deeply.

Let me know how it works out.

Cindy
