Definition: Grade skipping is the practice of placing a child in a grade level past the one he or she should be moving into based on age. For example, a child in first grade may be moved into the third grade, thereby skipping second grade.

As a Personal view from your side, are you for or against
Double Promotion ?.

This is a very difficult question to just answer as it would really depend on the situation and, of course the child.  While a child may be cognitively ready to 'skip a grade' he/she may not be socially/emotionally ready.  I've seen many children who are quite capable of doing their class work and completing it well ahead of their peers, but these same children have many difficulties in making friends and playing with others.  Education cannot only focus on one aspect of child development but must look at the whole child.  In the same sense I have been witness to children who are academically and socially well ahead of their peers.  These children tend to stand out in the classroom, they appear to be more mature than the others and would probably fare quite well in a higher level classroom, but none of us can see what the long term effects would be on this child.  Skipping a grade would have a child complete school a year earlier than others, so some may graduate high school (here in the U.S.) at age sixteen.  Recent studies have shown that children at this age still do not have completely mature brain functions and are most times incapable of making informed decisions.  Could a child at this age handle college and what if he/she chose not to further their education?  In today's job market, what kind of future would this child have?  Again, it would depend on the individual.  Some might flourish, while others might fade and have to  'be put' or 'held' back, which might have a whole other set of difficulties to endure.   I think perhaps we put too much stock in our grade level system and all children might do much better if they were taught at their personal learning level rather than that of a system grade level.
