Question
A parent tells you , "my child will be going to school all day next year. She won't need day care ." What should you ask this parent?

Answer
Hi Nikki,

Gosh, I used to get asked this all the time! :) I would point out the benefits that parents might not be
aware of that day cares and preschools offer. We think that parents know this, but often they don't. First, I would tell them that one point really has nothing to do with the other. Not always do people put their children in day care to get them used to being away for all day! If you have a preschool componenet to your DC- you can emphasize all the benefits of this (you know these)- both the social, academic, physical and emotional aspects to being around other childen. You can also piont out the benefits of having their children take direction from someone OTHER than their parent to get them ready for a Kindergarten teacher- things along those lines.

Good luck!!
