Question I will go to Bulgaria and Romania for holiday on
October 2005. Can you kindly advise me how to getto Bucharest-Romania from Sofia-Bulgaria by
train, e.g. train station, ticket price, time table etc. I look forward to your reply soon.
Thank you.
Answer I didn't answer this question right away as I am not a Travel Agent, but provide general information about travel in Bulgaria. You didn't say where you reside. May I suggest if you are in the USA, you call the free-phone # of an Agency that deals mainly with International Train Trav el. They can give you the specifics of current timetables, prices and such. Contact Ascutney Travel, 46 Tremont Square, Claremont, NH 03743 - 1-800-TRAINS-4. They can write tickets for you with payment in American dollars. I have found them to be reliable.
The Train Station is easily found in Sofia. There is also a Bus Terminal across from it where busses can be found to Bucharest. They may be a bit more reasonable but the train will probably be faster and more comfortable.Be careful wandering around the area of the train station, especially after dark, as there are those who would prey on travelers there. You will probably be able to get a direct train to Bucharest, going through Ruse, but you may have to change at Gorna Oryahovica, near Veliko Tarnovo which is a major rail hub. There is always a delay at the border, so figure that into your plans, but it is usually still less than if you were trav eling by car. I know you will find Bulgaria an interesting place to visit.
