AboutAshraf Nisseem Expertise Peace be with you. I
am an Egyptian Coptic Orthodox. I can answer questions about the Eastern and Oriental Orthodox
beliefs, especially Coptic beliefs.
Experience I have the knowledge to say something useful.
Organizations I teach children in my church how to read the Holy Book and other sacred books used in holy services.
Question Ive started feeling drawn toward the Coptic Orthodox church recently and have done some reading on it and really find it speaks to me in a lot of ways , too many to get into now, but the only church in my area is a little bit of a drive. I have never attended any churches in my life and have honestly been turned off by most protestant churches but in the last year our Lord has most definatly called me to Him making me feel like i need to find somewhere to be with other believers. So I was wondering how Coptic services go, what they include, those type of things. Thank You very much God Bless.
Answer hi michael,
thank you very much for ur question. i pray u live a true Christian life with Lord Jesus in ur heart.
it is true that u need to be with other believers. you cannot call God your father unless Church is your mother. you need to be a good disciple of Lord Jesus and the first step is to have a God fearing priest to be your father of confession and God father. he will teach you the way of the Lord and support you with his prayers.
Coptic Church welcomes all people. we believe all human beings r children of God. try for urself and i m sure u ll see how close to God u ll be.
Coptic services include individual prayers and congregational prayers. some of them r lengthy. this is on purpose. King David says: ”Seven times a day I praise You because of Your righteous judgments” (Psalms 119:164) you can start gradually though. i do not recommend that you start by praying all canonical prayers daily. take it step by step.
The Book of Hours is called "Agpeya". The word, Agpeya, is a Coptic (ancient Egyptian) word meaning “Book of Hours.” It is based on the Coptic root word, ti agp, which means “hour.”
The book of AGPEYA contains the seven canonical prayers which have been cherished and practiced by the faithful Copts. The Agpeya contains prayers for seven different hours to be said throughout the day. The hours are chronologically laid out, each containing a theme corresponding to events in the life of our Lord Jesus Christ.
the main public service is the Holy Mass when we receive the Holy Communion.
