Eastern Orthodox/Prince of Peace

Question
Hi Ashraf. At the end of a mass, the priest usually says (i know it in arabic) "Ya Malik el salam, a3tina salamak..."...The literal translation for this is "King of peace, give us Your peace" but in the Bible I read: "For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." Isaiah 9:6
Should he be referred to as King of peace or Prince of peace...? and when the Bible says He is the Prince of peace...who is the King?
Thanks

Answer
hi Someone,

thnx for the nice question.

Jesus is Prince of Peace and King of Peace.

"Prince of Peace" means that he is the source and maker of peace. in arabic it is "ra2eess al salam." The name "Prince of Peace" is a reminder to us that Jesus came to show us how to live in harmony with our fellow man. This name is like a title, and helps us to remember that Jesus was more than a man, He is the incarnate God who came to show us the moral and Biblical way to live our lives. the peace between God and man, heaven and earth, man and earth, man and woman, was broken. all these aspects of peace were restored in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

the "King of Peace" is Melchizedek the King of Salem, The Priest of Most High God who blessed Abraham. The name of the city where Melchizedek presided was "Salem," which means "Peace." Melchizedek symbolyses Jesus the real King of Peace. u can read about it in the Book of Hebrews chapters 5-6-7.

thus, it is Bibilically and spiritually correct to call Lord Jesus "Prince of Peace" and "King of Peace."

in Christ,

ashraf
