Eastern Orthodox/Mary Apparitions

Question
The Catholic church has a certain criteria to determine if an apparition of Mary is genuine. Does the Orthodox church have one as well?

Answer
Holy Scripture tells us that demons can deceive and appear as Angels of light. There are stories from the Fathers that tell of false apparitions appearing to monks, even claiming to be Christ. Our first instinct is not to trust apparitions at all. At best such things are first judged on canonicity. Does what is proclaimed accord with accepted church teachings? Does it happen in an Orthodox context? If it happens outside the Orthodox Church then it is not our apparition to worry about. Therefore we don't really have or need a "formal" process. It is generally left for the bishops to decide as they see fit.
