Eastern Orthodox/newborns

I am a Greek Orthodox mommy of two beautiful girls.  My little one will be 40 days on the 19th of May.  The true reason we bring our babies to be welcomed into the church is because it is symbolic of Mary and Joseph bringing Jesus to the temple 40 days after his birth.

It is the  custom to bring a newborn to church  at 40 days  for two reasons: One The Virgin Mary brought the baby Jesus to the temple at 40 days old as part of Jewish Custom (Leviticus) 2. Mom and baby need time to recover from birth.  Babies can be baptized at any age. Most people do it before a year old and all major sacraments are done at once. (Baptism, First Communion and confirmation/chrismation)
