Ecuador - retire in ecuador

Expert: Robin Slater - 6/14/2009

Question
Hello, I may need to retire early and am very interested in a quiet place like Cotacachi. I would pay cash for a small condo and have about 500 us a month to live on, and in 7 years i would have about 1000.00 a month. I am single and don't need very much. I do not drink or smoke and can live on little. Do you think it is possible for me now. Quito is only two hours away and I could go there when i want to be in the city and stay over in a cheap hotel.thansk, Randy

Answer
Good afternoon Randy,

A living expense of $500 (i.e., for food, transportation, telephone etc) is more than adequate.  In terms of a quiet place, really anywhere within 2 hours of Quito (i.e., Riobamba to the south or up to Cotacachi in the north) is a good area.  You might want to consider the Sangolqui area, or even Nayon.  Would you plan on renting or buying a condo?

Warmest regards,

Robin
