Citizen of Ecuador who was an Engineer in the petroleum industry, specially in the Shushufini Oil Refinery Project and had the opportunity to travel by all the country including the jungle where there are oil fields. Question We are talking about the possibility of retiring fulltime or parttime in Manta. I have read here that you have told people Ecuador is dangerous? From everything I have read, they say it is very safe, and very low crime, so now I am confused? We are two women both in our later 50's, and want to be in a safe area, with a nice lifestyle. Do you recommend one area over another?

Answer in my opinion all Ecuador is a dangerous place, but it is easy to take ways to protect one self.
Manta is a nice place but I can not to say if it is safe for you or nor. That is very subjective matter. You may go to Manta and try your self. if you are careful always you will be safe.
