Question i recently painted my '83 ibanez flying v and the paint job itself is fine. i wanted to know specifically what kind of clear coat is typically used to get that thick, ultra shiny finish? i'm guessing its not clear spray paint.
Answer Hey Don,
Thanks for writing. Actually, it's a spray lacquer like these use in cabinet maker's shops. It has a plastic compound in it so it is hard as nails. You have to do multiple coats to get that thick clear-coat look. It is best to do it with an airbrush to get the smoothest finish. Let me know if you need me to walk you further through the process. Stay in touch...
Johnny
