Question QUESTION: I have a General Electric Model 5KC42JG247X electric motor. The wiring
diagram is not legible. It is a TEFC Thermally protected Cap Start motor. 1/3
HP 1725 RPM dual voltage reversible. It has 7 leads. For 110VAC 3 leads to
hot, 3 to ground, and 1 taped up. I replaced the Cap, it runs, strangely tho.
I Need to reverse the rotation. Also the motor momentarily abruptly slows
and then regains RPM. I think this means I need a Centrifugal switch, I need
source/ what part number to buy
ANSWER: Pretty good diagnosis, I agree, reverse should be two wires in the bundles 5 and 8 if 5 is one bundle and 8 is in the other swap them.
If you can read the lead numbers, they may be tiny numbers on the lead itself not a tag, tell me what is in what bundle, do not lose track of what goes to what bundle,
slows down and then speeds up could be cent switch or low voltage check both, first make sure a spring has not come loose on the cent switch, make sure of your voltage.
A switch may be a pain, go to JENKINS ELECTRIC Motors .com. google it, or go to electric motor warehouse.
One should be able to get you a switch if it is still being made.

QUESTION: Thanks, but there are only wire colors, no numbers. Is there a way to
determine the reversing wires thru measurement ? I have electronic test
equipment. Volts, Amps, Ohms, Capacitance, limited inductance,
Oscilloscope, signal generators, etc. Why the seventh taped (some user)
wire ? what could it be ? Does this motor have 2 start windings, only one
used at a time (wired/not): for reversing?

Or ohm out the motor leads and draw me a print of how it is wired up in two bundles of three and one seperate taped off lead, wost that could happen is you send it to KC and I wire it up for you, It might take a few nours, plus beaings and clean up,
but we should be able to get it for you.
