Question
Hi, I've just rewired my old deco fan motor, runs great but it's smoking . Because the wires are cloth I wasn't sure which was ground and which was hot. Either way it runs but still smokes. Is this because of age?  Motor model # EX55022. X11639  single phase. 110 volts.   Just curious. Thanks89

Answer
Check the current when its running.
If its within the nameplate rated current under load, then the smoke is probably from oil or contamination.
But usually oil needs to be hot for smoke to occur.
I suspect the current is high, either not connected correctly, or it's shorted out.
