Electric Motors/ballpark suggestion on kind of motor?

I'm hoping you can give me some direction here.

I need a reversible, variable speed motor that will turn a platform about 20" across with an up to 400 lb load on it at about 2-8 RPM.

I have no idea if I'm describing a big or small motor, direct drive, belted, with transmission or what. Would need to plug into a regular 110 outlet.
Much obliged for any suggestions.

Happy New Year,

ANSWER: For a low RPM you need a motor with a gear box. Motor 100:1 ratio or equivalent.
eg if motor is running at 800RPM the output shaft of gearbox will be at 8RPM.
get a permanant magnet DC motor 1/2 HP with a gear box. And a DC drive which will give variable speed with oprtion to reverse.
Look at Baldor motors on line.

QUESTION: Thank you, sir.

I hope it's not too much trouble, but since this is completely out of my realm of expertise, I was wondering if you wouldn't mind checking this link to a Baldor motor to see if I'm in the ballpark of your suggestion.

Thanks very much in advance.

That one is a motor only.
Check out this link it shows gear motors.
