I ended up cleaning the commutator at the resting places both up and down. The elevator started right up no problem and has been running fine. It seems like it must be cleaned regularly. Could you tell me best way to clean. Also,I can't see any grooving or slotting of the commutator just some black dust. Cleans right off with gentle scraping.

The brushes need to be changed where could I get them?

Let me know

Neal
