MY 40 year old Doerr motor quit starting. 1HP 115vac/Sears air compressor plugged into 15A socket. Replace top 485M capacitor and it started a couple times but not the next. Hums. I unplugged it before it can blow anything. I tapped back of motor with hammer and it starts fine even after building up pressure. So I got to inspect inside of motor rear to see how the start circuit works and what could be faulty at times.

Please note in a pinch if a 15 amp with 14 gauge wire is not enough, the utility room or clothes washer plug in the USA is still a 12 gauge wire and a 20 amp breaker. you may use a 12 gauge extension cord. for a test or short term use this will often get you by. and more air hose as well.
