Question
Can a start capacitor be added to my single phase 3/4 hp. motor, to stop power drop at start up. It does not have an external mounted capacitor.
When this motor starts it dims all lights in the house. My concern is all the other electronic in the house, computers, televisions etc.

Answer
If the compressor is starting ok, then your problem is in the circuit it is connected too. It may be overloaded. Try putting it on a circuit by itself. If it still dims the lights, then you will need to upgrade your service. and also, your capacitor is probably inside the motor on the rear endbell, where the switch is. Try this suggestion, and if that doesn't work, then have a service center check it out. Your capacitor may be weak, and causing the start circuit to stay in longer than needed.
