About Jeremy Adams
Expertise
I can answer basically any question pertaining to the field of electricity, its applications and daily uses, theory, calculations, how to for residential, commercial, and light industrial. I am an inside wireman, therefore I can't help much with questions to do with linework, such as powerlines and distribution switchyards. I can however, answer some questions that have to do with power generation.

Experience
I have 15 years in the trade and currently I am employed at TVA Cumberland City Fossil Plant where we generate about 10% of the power used in the Southeast. Of those 15 years, I have wired houses, wired many office complexes, banks, hospitals, schools, industrial applications, and can also install fire alarm systems.

Subject: amp draw for multiple motors

Question
Jeremy,
First, thanks for your time. I am having a controller built that will operate 40 winches at the same time. Each winch is 120v/6a rated for 1800 lbs & combined will be lifting aprox. 5000 lbs. I am being told that the amp draw for this will only be 2amps. I am having a hard time understanding this logic. could you clearify this one for me.
Thanks again,
Bob

Answer
Bob,
First, let me say WOW! I concur with you on the logic. The numbers just do not add up, However this is somewhat out of my scope as I have never dealt with multiple loads to this degree. It just doesn't seem right to me. Let me do some research for ya since you have now struck my curiosity and upon my findings I will get back with you. Thanks for the brain teaser, this should be interesting! I will be in touch.

Good Luck,
J Adams
