About Jeremy Adams
Expertise
I can answer basically any question pertaining to the field of electricity, its applications and daily uses, theory, calculations, how to for residential, commercial, and light industrial. I am an inside wireman, therefore I can't help much with questions to do with linework, such as powerlines and distribution switchyards. I can however, answer some questions that have to do with power generation.

Experience
I have 15 years in the trade and currently I am employed at TVA Cumberland City Fossil Plant where we generate about 10% of the power used in the Southeast. Of those 15 years, I have wired houses, wired many office complexes, banks, hospitals, schools, industrial applications, and can also install fire alarm systems.

Subject: pool electricity

Question
We are putting a 15foot round soft sided pool and have to get an electrical inspection. How do we install the electrical wiring to the pool to get it to pass? What is required in Newport News Virginia? We are totally electricity illiterate. How much will an electrician charge to do this if it is to technical?

Answer
Deanna,

All electrical codes are a minimum of The NEC (National Electrical Code). Each municipality must observe this and can only add to or go beyond this minimum. I haven't had the opportunity to work in Newport News, VA therefore I am of no help in that regard. I can tell you that it is very important to ground everything metal in and around your pool. It would be of your best interest and safety to call a qualified electrician. As for pricing my guess would be around $300-$500 plus materials, which could put you around the $1000 mark in all. Check around and shop the contractors for the best price, most give free estimates.

Good Luck
J Adams
