Question
We have a Marathon B311 motor that we would like to utilize a Dayton 2X440 drum switch with to reverse the rotation.  The motor is reversible, but it is not factory pre-wired for switching.  The motor is wired for 115V and switching the terminals of 2 and 5 (red and Black) reverses the rotation.  Can this be accomplished with the addition of leads from 2 and 5 to the drum switch?

Answer
Due to safety reasons, the only way I wire a drum switch is to bring out all six leads to the drum switch. Any other way may leave one set of terminals "HOT" even though the drum switch is in the off position.

Note: You may or may not have the P2 or P1 lead. It is used for motors with a overload protector.
