Question
QUESTION: I have a 50 amp welder and that uses a 50 amp plug can i hook up a 30 amp welder to that socket?or do i have to have a 50 amp plug?

ANSWER: Jared,

A welder that uses a 30 amp plug also requires a 30 amp circuit. What you could do is "tap" that 50 amp circuit at the 50 amp receptacle and fuse it down to 30 amps at that point and install the required 30 amp receptacle.Obviously you could only use one welder at a time.

QUESTION: The welder has a 50 amp plug that comes with the millers

Answer
Ok to be clear. You can not hook up a 30 amp welder to a 50 amp plug. Again what you could do is "tap" that 50 amp circuit at the 50 amp receptacle and fuse it down to 30 amps at that point and install the required 30 amp receptacle for the 30 amp welder. Obviously you could only use one welder at a time.
