Electrical Engineering - 1 or 3 phase carbon brush

Expert: cleggsan - 4/1/2007

Question
Goodday
Looking at example or anywhere I can, when talking about the generator, I saw only one carbon brush regardless is it 1 phase or 3 phases. For 3 phase generator, how many carbon brush actually.is it one for each phase or one for all phases. If one for all phases, then how iit is conected to the 3 phases then.

Answer
Depends on the internal wiring of the generator windings. If they are separate windings then you need connections to each one.

If the windings are internally connected and only two wires coming out, then just one set of brushes.

There are many text books on this that you should pick up and study.

Have fun,
C
