Subject: Star Delta Motor Theory

Question
Could you tell me the theory behind the star and delta connections in a three phase ac motor with regards to ohms law.

Also why it is that one setup is faster than the other. What is the reasoning behind this?

Thanks,
Freddie

There is much theory, practice and history associated with this question and it is not a simple matter.  Wiring configuration and coil design is often a function of economies of the coil fabrication and steel structure as well as starting requirements and torque under load characteristics.

The above URLs each have a good discussion on various aspects of this question. I invite you to go through them in search of the information which you are seeking.  The second one, above, has much reading for you to digest.

Hope this helps; and sorry for the reading assignment.
