Subject: inductive charging

Question
I am an industrial designer at CCA.  I am designing an electric pedometer that clips onto shoelaces via magnets.  I would like to charge the pedometer with a dock that uses inductive charging for aesthetic/convenience purposes.  If the clip is closed when in the dock would the magnets interrupt the charging of the battery?  Thanks for your help!

Answer
Depends entirely upon two things:

ONE - the type of materials the magnets are made of.  (Some permanent magnets will alter the magnetic fields from your inductor and some will not).

TWO - the configuration or design of the device.

I am sure it can be done, but it will take some engineering to make sure it is done correctly.

Hope this will help.

C
