Question
QUESTION: sir
myself manish ,i am from India . i am doing power engg ,i am in second year i want to make my carrier better from the early age can you suggest me topics currently which are valuable for me in this time
i am also IEEE Member
warm regards

ANSWER: Congratulations on starting your career by getting a good education.

The best strategy for power engineering it the basic EE course from your university.  If you have opportunity to take elective courses you should consider those in machinery, information technology, communications, control theory or energy management.

Then when you enter graduate school you can take more deeper courses in power systems, insulation technologies and magnetic physics.

You will be well on your way.

You can learn more by looking at programs offered by various universities around the world.

Here is the Power and Energy Society's field of interest which you should find useful.

"The Society field of interest embraces planning,
research, development, design, application, construction,
installation, and operation of apparatus, equipment, structures,
materials and systems for the safe, reliable, and economic
generation, transmission, distribution, conversion, measurement,
and control of electric energy. It includes the developing of
engineering standards, the providing of information and
instruction to the public and legislators, as well as technical,
scientific, literary, educational, and other activities."

Hope this will help you.

QUESTION: thank you very much for your kind response to me
frankly speaking
all topics you mention in reply are all new one for me i have no knowledge about any topics
sir i want to start project now  so pls suggest me topics on preliminary level and i try to work on that topic, pls give me topic related to power plant operation and management
after my work u evaluate and rate me and after that you respond me according to me caliber
i am asking u all because near by me in my university faculty are not so much encouraging to students to work on any project
but  after getting this link i am looking forward may be your the right person who can change my life
i am telling you in a very frank manner

Answer
I suggest you think about energy requirements for generator and what the factors are for greatest efficiency in generator system.  It will be easy to find much information about this subject.

Here is your outline.  Efficiency is Pout/Pin.  If generator is 100% efficient then output power is equal to input.  However, we know this is impossible and it raises the question what are the factors that cause losses in the conversion of mechanical to electrical power.  Well, the generator coils have resistance which will cause heat.  The rotation of the generator rotor will have bearing and wind friction. Then, there are eddy currents and saturation losses in the iron core of the coil forms.

You may want to look up some generator efficiency data and study some textbooks on the subject, as well.  Then you can prepare a table or chart of the factors causing losses and how much contribution each one makes to the total loss calculation.

Look up power equations to know what the values are:  Electric power = Current times Voltage,  Mechanical power = 550 ft.lbs/sec = 746 watts and so on.

You will learn basics of energy conservation and conversion of energy form from mechanical power to electrical power terms.

Good Luck,
C
