Question
What are the davantages of changing over from star to delta for high current applications? If one winding is different in resistance than the others, how phase balancing can be done?

Answer
Sorry, I am not an expert in this level of power engineering (I am mostly an electronics engineer).

I found this web site that has some discussion about the advantages of transformer used in transformations that might be useful for you.

and this one:

Hope this helps in some way.  Sorry I don't have any conclusive recommendations for you.
