Question
Dear Prof Cleggsan

1 Is it possible to also achieve Reciprocating Motion - straight line forward and backwards instead of the conventional rotary motion?.

2 If yes, Can there be advantages for designing electrical products which use Electric motors with Reciprocating Motion?.

Thanks
Prashant

Answer
A good reference on this subject is the wiki page that describes them, pictures and a listing of where some of them are utilized.
