Question
Dear Prof Cleggsan

Can we design a decompiler for any compiled programming language?

Thanks
Prashant

Answer
The link below is a long discussion on the very question:

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4842654/is-there-software-akin-to-an-ultimate

It seems the question you ask is too broad.  Narrowed down to open or closed source code and the system supported you could get lucky in decompiling and unknown program language.

So the answer is:  You must learn something about the unknown compiler in order to intelligently test a decompiler strategy.

A decompiler is opposite of a compiler:

Hope this helps.
