QUESTION: Dear Prof Cleggsan

Which of the following materials can be contacted as the best for constructing
T square and Set square?
Plastic, Wood, Glass, Rubber,Aluminium.


ANSWER: My first choice would be aluminum since it is a stable metal.

Plastic may not be rigid enough, depending on the plastic formulation used.
Wood is not accurate enough and difficult to make the gradation markings on the surface.
Rubber is not stable enough for when measuring distances an angle.

That is my thought.

Will you prefer unbreakable glass as a constructing material for T square and Set square?


Oh, No!

Glass represents a safety hazard. If the instrument is dropped or gets broken the shards of glass can be very dangerous.  Also, in a working environment the user would be required to wear safety glasses.

It is not a good idea to use glass.

(Unbreakable glass is strong, but still it is breakable and dangerous to use on the job.)
