Electrical Engineering - Monitor

Expert: Dave Nyce - 7/23/2002

Question
I'm not sure you'll be able to help but here goes: I have the screen from a laptop computer which has been disconnected and I now want to connect it to a desktop computer either through an analog connection or dvi. I'm wondering if this is even possible and if yes, how? Thanks

Answer
Laptop computer screens are not made to communicate over standard protocols as monitors are. They are made to communicate various ways for the particular application in order to reduce cost and size. Therefore, although possible, it is not practical to try to figure out how to connect one to a desktop. It would take a lot of circuit design work to make the interface.

Hope this helps!

Dave
