Question Now the TV will not turn on, therefore no audio or video. I can hear it attempt to start up and then stop. The last time (2 days ago) I saw a picture on the screen it was very distorted with shadows on everything. I did attempt to use the manual converge on the screen using the remote control but I only made the picture worse. Later that day no picture - no audio - will not start up. Is it still the STK IC's that need replacing to fix the video and what is your opinion as to why the TV will not power up.
Thanks again, Jared.

-----Question-----
Suddenly the screen on my Samsung HCN4226W arched at the top and colors red, blue and green became mashed together. Initially the bottom half of the screen was OK but an hour later it distorted as well. It is like looking through a glass and the figures and letters on the screen are superimposed over each other. Everything has a halo effect.
Later the next day the picture went completely and the video on the TV will not come on. You can hear it attempt to power up and then stop. Will not work in any mode, DVD, VHS, ext... The sound continues to be fine. Any help would be appreciated. I have done some research - should I replace the "convergence amplifier chips and/or the complete Board.

-----Answer-----
Yes, I would say it is a failure of the STK ICs in the convergence circuitry. They must be replaced with a skilled technician who knows how to solder and who can apply the heat grease perfectly.
It will cost $400 plus or minus to have a shop come in and do it.

Answer As you know, diagnosing long distance without seeing the symptoms is, at best, a guessing game to some extent.
Meaning, there may be other problems going on with your set. However, based on what you have explained so far it seems clear the STKs have shorted down placing heavy load on the power supply and tripping the protection circuit (which shuts the set down). The relay clicking is indication it is trying to turn ON, but the current is too great and the protection circuit immediately shuts the ON relay OFF in order to avoid further damage to the set.
So, in my opinion you must replace the STKs - and maybe more, but that is the first thing to do. The typical charge for doing so $400 at most shops.
