AboutDave Nyce Expertise I have been an electronics engineer for 25 years. I can answer questions on analog and digital circuits and my specialty is sensors.
Experience I am the inventor on 23 US patents, and also some foreign ones. Developed sensors for over 25 years. Licensed private pilot (airplane and rotorcraft), have HAM radio license. I'm not an expert in computer networking.
Question I am in process of making a extionsion chord reel for my outside work.
My question is, how do i hook up the power chord from house receptical to the rotating member of my reel ?
this reel will be hand operated, and i would like to put approx. 75 ft of chord on the reel.
I have a retracable set up , but i want mor extension chord than the 30ft that came with the boughten reel
Thanks

Answer This is definitely not easy to do on your own, safely. It requires what are called slip rings. They are conductive brushes that rub on a circular rotary contact surface. You would need one for hot, one for neutral, and probably two for ground (for safety). I would also recommend using a ground fault interrupter for safety.
Since this is such a difficult project, it would probably be cheaper and more safe if you bought a reel that had a rotating contact already installed. I think McMaster Carr should have them, or a farm supply store.
