Electrical Wiring in the Home - circuit breaker trip repeatly in master bedrm

Expert: Dale - 1/3/2008

Question
Hi Dale,
Tonight at 11:30Pm I notice my master bedroom light would not come on. I checked the breaker panel and it was off. I switch it back on. The lights came on for about 5 min. Then the  circuit breaker tripped the light off again, and again. I tried 5 times with the same results. I check the GFCI receptacles and reset three on the first floor and two on the second floor(located in the bathrooms) where the bedroom is located. I have three lights and a small breathing machine plugged into different outlet. the house is 5 year old.  This happen when the home was 3 years old, and I had 2 breaker replace. Now it's starting again, only the master bedroom Please help and what should I do.  Thanks you for your time and advise.

Answer
Hi Sandra,
It sounds like you have a short in the circuit. Try resetting it with the light turned off, if it will stay reset the problem is probably with the light, if it still won't reset it is most likely in one of the receptacles. If that is the case you will need to open each one up and check for a loose or shorted wire, generally you will be able to see burn marks either on one of the wires or the box if you have metal boxes.
Dale
