Electrical Wiring in the Home - converting a chandelier into a plug-in

Expert: Bob Sponaugle - 1/1/2008

Question
happy new year bob! i purhcased 2 mini chandeliers for  my daughter's room and wanted to hang them on either side of her bed (about 3/4 of the way up hanging from some kind of decorative "arm" from the wall).  how can i convert -- and what would i need exactly, to be able to plug these into the wall to achieve this more convenient, desired look? also, is there anything to put over the cord to hide it as best possible by paint or similar as it runs up the wall? any and all info you can provide me with would be extremely helpful. thank you so much.

Answer
Hi.

You can use lamp cord, available in spools or by the foot.  If you were using chain too, they make kits for it available at all home centers.  But if you want to cover the cord, they make something that is plastic that goes over the wire and attaches to the wall.  One brand is called Hide-A-Cord.  It is usually with the Wiremould at home centers.

I hope this helps.

Bob
