Subject: Fluorescent Light Troubleshooting

Question
Bill,
I have a 2 year old overhead fluorescent light in my kitchen (takes 4 bulbs). It's worked fine since installation, and this week all four bulbs stopped working at the same time. I checked the circuit breaker and it's not tripped. All other lights and outlets in the kitchen still work. The bulbs that were in the light were not black or discolored, and their leads aren't bent. I bought four replacement bulbs and installed them, but it still doesn't work. What ideas do you have for me to try next?
Thanks!

Answer
You need to test if you have power at the light?
If so you need a new ballast or fixture.
If not you need to test the switch.
If you have power your switch is bad.
If not you will have to find where your switch is getting it's power from.
