Subject: U Tube Ceiling Fixture in Kitchen

Question
I have a fluorescent ceiling fixture, round, the size of standard round fixtures but mine has two u-tube lights, not round.  The fixture is from late 90's or early 2000/2001. Home Depot installed it as part of kitchen renovation.  A couple of years ago I hit the plastic cover (flat globe type thing) with broom handle and broke it.  The replacement I got was for the round type fixtures and didn't fit it. This one popped off recently and is now in pieces.  I don't want to spend $30 or so on a new replacement that doesn't fit, but hardware stores don't have the replacement I need.  Do you know the name of the U-tube type fixtures?  If not can you tell me something about the new t8 fixtures I saw mentioned in another query?  I may just have the whole fixture replaced.  Thanks.

Answer
I sure you can find a replacement if you look hard enough but really the fixture is 20 years old. You will save time and energy by buying a new fixture. This time get one with a shatter proof lens so you won't run into this problem again.
