I am a retired licensed Electrical Contractor and have held an Electrician license for 34 years. I have been a Master Electrician for the last 25 years in various cities throughout Texas. I currently hold a State of Texas Master Electrician license and employed as a Master Electrical Specialist by a home improvement firm.

Question
i installed a new light where a old light was and the bulbs keep burning out in about a week then the last bulb that burnt out the light fixture would not work at all even with a new bulb i took the fixture apart to find the wires leading into the fixture were burnt through what is the problem

Answer
Hi Eric,

The burnt wires are usually because of a loose connection to the power wires coming into the light's electrical box. Another reason is using too large of bulb in the fixture.

Make sure the connections are tight. Cut away the burnt wire so you can reconnect with good wire. Also, check the wattage on the bulbs and make sure the wattage is not higher than the recommended maximum wattage.
