Expert: Robert Wilber - 11/3/2009
Question I replaced my light switches, a single pole 3 way and a single pole 3 way combo near the basement entrance. The single 3 way switch operates the stairwell lights, there is another switch at the bottom and another at the top of the stairwell, made a diagram of the wires before I removed the switches.Brought the switches to the dealer and he matched them up for me. OK so FAR
Now I wired the single 3 way first and that works fine. Now I try to hook up the 2 switch combo ( interior garage light & outside over garage door light ) when I hook up that 8th wire, like my diagram reads and throw the BREAKER ON the breaker TRIPS???
OK BENNY can you help me out ( my wife wants to put me in the NUT HOUSE ) I hate to give up on this but, I'am near the end of my rope and my wife lite the other end on fire. HELP
PS I did Browse ur anwsers one was close but with out single 3 way
THANK YOU
Answer Though your description is unclear - [really] - I have derived the impression that there are THREE locations that control the stairwell lights. Is this correct?
Also there were 3 switches at the back door.
...and just what is a single pole 3 way?
Got the old switches and the diagrams you made?
