Electrical Wiring in the Home - can light in kitchen

Question
Hello.  I read over some information on fixes for can lights going out.  The attic space is clear around the light-no insulation or boxes near light.  I tried replacing lightbulb as well but still nothing.  While up there I found a small dead bird near the light. :( I suppect it may have gone into attic near light to be warm and maybe shorted out light?  But I see no chewed wires or anything obvious...I'm at a loss. Should I replace light fixture or is there something else I can check?

Answer
Hi Nicole,

Are there other lights on the same switch which are working?

If so...the problem is in the non-working light.  If not...the problem is the switch.  I am assuming this is the only light not working.

Inside the recessed light can is a thermo switch which turns off the light if too much heat is generated.  Although rare, this thermo switch could have gone bad.

Another cause could be the tab in the center of the bulb socket could be flattened and is not making contact with the light bulb.  Turn off power and use a small screw driver to pry up this tab a little.  Put the bulb in and see if working.

I hope this has helped.  If you need additional information please send me a follow-up question.

Thanks and have a nice day,

Benny
